The Dodgers and Marlins wrapped up a tense weekend series that saw plenty of drama, mostly centered around home plate umpire Chad Fairchild. Trevor Bauer started strong for LA, striking out four straight and mixing up pitches beautifully in the early innings. One of the biggest moments came when Miami’s hitting coach got ejected for arguing balls and strikes. He yelled out “keep him on the plate” after a strike call he clearly didn’t agree with, and Fairchild tossed him.
Later, in the bottom of the fourth, the Dodgers tied the game and then walked in another run with the bases loaded. Matt Beaty stepped up with a chance at an easy RBI walk but instead got a new pitcher and some questionable calls. A pitch he thought was nearly identical to a ball he had previously taken was called a strike. Then he got rung up on the outside and lost it, muttering “so bad,” which earned him a quick ejection. Whether he said “so bad” or “you’re so bad” mattered, considering one is a critique of the call and the other a personal jab. Either way, Beaty was gone, and Dave Roberts argued that the trigger was too quick. Kershaw and teammates got a laugh out of it, Beaty claimed he just said “you’re bad,” and Bauer told him that’s enough to get tossed these days.
To top it off, on the next play, Miami’s Jon Berti tried to turn a double play but lost his shoe mid-throw. He had to settle for just one out. A wild game with pitching dominance, ejections, and a sneaker on the field.
