Josh Reddick saved the Astros in a wild ninth inning during a heated matchup against the Rangers. With Houston up by two, Hunter Pence stepped in with two runners on and a chance to flip the game. Pence had been hot at the plate, smashing three homers in his last six at-bats. He jumped on the first pitch and sent a deep shot toward the short fence in right. But Reddick tracked it perfectly, leapt at the wall, and made an over-the-shoulder grab as the ball nearly escaped his glove. The rain cleared fans from the front rows, giving him a clear path and no interference.
The catch not only robbed Pence of a go-ahead homer but also prevented the runners from tagging up. Reddick’s awareness and glove work shut the door on what could have been a collapse. Pence stared in disbelief, and even he seemed unsure if the play was real. Houston’s bench and outfielders erupted. After the win, the team swarmed Reddick in the handshake line, handing out high-fives and pats. Closer Ryan Pressly made sure to thank him personally, knowing that any other result might’ve cost the team the game.
