The Yankees were down 5-0 late in the game, but Tyler Wade tried to get something going with a single and a stolen base. DJ LeMahieu followed with a soft grounder that let Wade use his speed to race home. High-fives followed, with Luke Voit making sure he didn’t miss Wade’s hand. The dugout got loud after the run. Brett Gardner and Mike Ford traded gestures and shouted for “fours,” as Gary Sanchez joined in asking for the same. Gio Urshela ran all the way from the far end of the dugout to celebrate before heading back to his seat.
Things stayed light despite the deficit. Masahiro Tanaka was seen making goofy faces, keeping the energy up. On the mound, J.A. Happ struggled, which led to a visit from pitching coach Larry Rothschild and eventually a call to the bullpen. DJ LeMahieu, standing nearby, joked around trying to figure out who was playing outfield, mock confusing Trout-level names with what he saw. The team was trailing, but the bench kept it loose and loud, showing some life in the late innings.
