Christian Yelich hits a ball through the fence for a ground rule double, a breakdown

Christian Yelich hit a strange double off Jeff Samardzija a few games ago. The ball slipped right through an unsuspecting fan’s legs in the front row and bounced back into play. The fan didn’t even try to touch it. In fact, he held out another ball, acting like it was the one hit into the stands. The umpire reviewed the play and ruled it a double instead of a ground-rule double. That forced Ben Gamel, who started the play on first, to stop at third base.

What made it weirder was how uninterested the fans were. Most people scramble for foul balls. This guy already had one in his hand and didn’t seem to care about the live play happening right there. It probably cost Milwaukee a run. Ryan Braun struck out right after, ending the inning with no damage. So instead of Gamel scoring from first, the Brewers came up empty.
