Chaos in the ninth inning, a breakdown

Wright State and Georgia Tech delivered complete chaos in the ninth inning. Georgia Tech led 7-3 heading into the final frame, but Wright State kicked things off with a throwing error and loaded the bases after a wild walk that took seven balls. A run came in on a grounder, then another on a walk, and a wild pitch brought them within one. A bloop single tied it 7-7 and the Wright State bench exploded.

Bottom of the ninth, Georgia Tech caught a break when a bunt attempt turned into a hit-by-pitch. A real hit to the hand, too. They moved runners over with a bunt, walked to load the bases, and then a fly ball to center looked like an easy out. But the center fielder dropped it, letting the tying run score. Moments later the winning run crossed home on a bang-bang play at the plate. Tech walked it off 9-8 in one of the wildest innings of the year. The umps made everyone wait with a brief review, but the call held up, giving Georgia Tech a second chance to celebrate.
