Center fielder robs homer without catching the ball, a breakdown

Texas Tech hammered Kansas with a 19-1 blowout, and Sam Hunt had a chance to make it an even 20. He crushed a ball to dead center that looked like a no-doubter. The center fielder played it off like he might have caught it, adding some confusion. But replay showed the ball clearly went over the fence. The second base umpire sprinted over to make the call and signaled home run. Then it got weird.

Hunt didn’t complete the home run trot. He thought the ball had been caught and didn’t round second base properly. That opened the door for the first base ump to call him out for leaving the base path. So, even though it cleared the fence, Hunt didn’t get credit for the home run. It would’ve been his first college homer. In the end, he got robbed without the fielder even catching the ball. A rare play that highlights how execution and awareness matter, even in a blowout.
