The Red Sox and Royals had to finish a previously suspended game tied in extra innings. It took just 13 minutes. After a quick pair of outs in the top of the 10th, Boston came to bat. Andrew Benintendi struck out to start the inning, but then the next hitter ripped a double off the backstop. Chris Owings came in to pinch run, and Kansas City intentionally walked the following batter to set up a force. None of it mattered because Brock Holt came up and ended it with a line drive down the line for the walk-off.
Holt was fired up. He pounded his chest, shouted at the dugout, and took off running toward home, sliding in like he just won a playoff game. His teammates initially chased him but stopped short. It was a short, makeup inning and they weren’t about to sprint after him twice. They all ended up meeting at home plate anyway and celebrated the quick win. The whole thing felt weird, but Holt didn’t care. He got the hit, sealed the win, and had his moment.
