The Braves pulled off a wild walk-off win against the Marlins last week. Freddie Freeman led off the bottom of the ninth with a double off the wall. Miami walked Josh Donaldson to set up the force, then Nick Markakis battled through a long at-bat before grounding out, which took away the force play. The Marlins walked Austin Riley next, loading the bases and bringing up Brian McCann with two outs.
Don Mattingly went for a bold move, pulling an outfielder and going with five infielders. McCann didn’t blink. He saw a first-pitch fastball outside and slapped it into left for the game-winner. Braves win, walk it off, and make all that strategy look pointless.
The dugout exploded. Ozzie Albies jumped the rail in celebration. McCann did a quick Running Man before getting doused—first with water, then with a splash of Gatorade. That was McCann’s second walk-off of the season, and the team let him hear it. A strong finish to a chaotic ninth.
