The Atlantic League delivered another chaotic finish a few weeks ago, thanks to rule quirks, a botched call, and an umpire meltdown. The extra-inning rule put a runner on second to start the inning, setting up a wild sequence. The offense loaded the bases, tied the game, then punched a grounder past third to take the lead. A controversial double play call at second base should have ended the inning, but the ump ruled the runner safe. That’s when veteran Logan Morrison lost it, tossed his glove, and yelled for someone to get him out of the league. He confronted the ump, who ejected him, even though the game had just ended.
Then things got weirder. Morrison and the ump bumped feet. The ump claimed Morrison tried to take off his shoe, so the ump ripped it off himself and tossed it sky-high. He then proceeded to erupt, shouting at players and tossing multiple guys after the game had been called. One coach yelled back, and even he got ejected postgame. Eventually, another member of the crew joined in, randomly tossing people while players tried to walk off the field. At one point it looked like the whole dugout had been thrown out. Both teams stood around confused, some laughing, others yelling. All of it over a blown call that should’ve sent the game to extra innings. Instead, it finished with one umpire missing a shoe and throwing out half the stadium.
