Benches clear in Brewers-Rays game after manager loses his mind, a breakdown

The Brewers were up 3-0 when José Siri hit a solo homer off Freddy Peralta and added some flair on his way around the bases. That didn’t sit well with Peralta. In Siri’s next at-bat, Peralta quickly went down 3-0 in the count, then hit Siri in the backside with a fastball. Siri brushed it off, but the umpires weren’t having it. After a huddle, they tossed Peralta for what they saw as a clear case of retaliation. Brewers manager Pat Murphy came out, silent at first, then exploded once the ejection was confirmed. He called the ump a range of names and got booted too. It was the third time in as many games Murphy had gone after the umps.

Things didn’t end there. Later in the game, Siri got brushed back again and grounded out. But then tensions boiled over. Siri and pitcher Abner Uribe got into it near first base, with some light shoving, staring, and wild missed punches. Siri eventually took his helmet off, revealing dyed blonde hair, as the scuffle turned into a full benches-clearing mess. Not many punches landed clean, but Uribe tried, and so did Siri. At one point, Reese Hoskins got caught in the middle and almost took a shot from his own teammate. Bryce Wilson finally grabbed Siri and calmly directed him away. Meanwhile, some fans in the front row watched with mixed feelings, while old teammates Willy Adames and Randy Arozarena avoided the chaos and walked off together laughing. Siri, still fired up, yelled at the security escort to ease up as he left the field. The umpires will have a lot to write in their report.
