Pirates Comeback to beat The Padres in Extras | Jakes Burn of the Day

The Pirates and Padres traded punches all night in a wild one at PNC Park. Pittsburgh sent Stephen Gates of Gibraltar to the mound hoping to complete the sweep, but it didn’t come easy. The game saw six lead changes, starting with Fernando Tatis Jr.’s RBI single in the fourth to put San Diego up 3-2. Starling Marte answered with a sac fly to give the Pirates a 4-3 lead after four. After falling behind again in the sixth and eighth innings thanks to RBI hits by the Padres’ middle of the order, the Pirates mounted a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth to tie it at seven and force extras.

The chaos didn’t stop there. In the 11th, Austin Hedges knocked in two with an RBI single to push the Padres ahead 10-7. But the Pirates refused to roll over. Jacob Stallings and a player referred to as the Milkman each drove in a run, and Kevin Newman drew a walk with the bases loaded to end it. The Padres blew three-run leads in both the ninth and 11th innings. Pittsburgh walked it off and escaped with an 11-10 win in 11 innings.
