The Angels’ outfield shut things down with two huge throws that changed the game. First, Max Muncy got on thanks to an error, and it looked like Corey Seager’s fly to center might make that mistake costly. But Mike Trout fired a perfect throw to the plate to nail Muncy trying to score. No bounce, straight to the catcher’s glove, laser accuracy. Muncy thought he was safe, but Trout didn’t miss.
Later, with the tying run on second in the bottom of the ninth, another test came. The ball went to Kole Calhoun in right field. Cody Bellinger tried to score and tie it, but Calhoun came up throwing and beat him by plenty. The throw ended the game and sent Calhoun into an emotional celebration. A fan in the background wasn’t happy, but the Angels loved it. Two outfield assists, one in the second and one in the ninth, both to cut down runs. The message was clear: don’t run on the Angels.
