The Rays walk-off on a wild pitch, a breakdown

Tampa Bay and Toronto were tied at six in the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded and two outs. Austin Meadows stepped in for the Rays against a wild Bashers, making for a tense at-bat. Meadows fouled one off early, then looked shaky chasing pitches out of the zone. With a 2-2 count, the plan was clear: try to get Meadows to chase one more breaking ball in the dirt. Bashers delivered, but the pitch got away from the catcher. Kevin Kiermaier came sprinting home and slid in safely for the rare walk-off wild pitch to give Tampa Bay the win.

Kiermaier celebrated hard, yelling and running around the field like a man possessed. He dodged multiple gatorade showers with slick footwork, leaving his teammates flailing. Eventually, they got him, but he put on a full display first. Behind the plate, d’Arnaud watched and shook his head in disbelief, clearly thinking he would’ve blocked that wild pitch. Kiermaier made sure all eyes stayed on him as he basked in the moment.
