The Rays walked off in the 14th after a long, scoreless game. With two outs in the bottom of the 13th, neither team could break through. In the 14th, rookie Jonathan Aranda—misheard as “Brah”—doubled to keep the inning alive. Erik Sogard, who the Rays traded for, followed with a hit that wasn’t quite enough. The opposing team walked Tommy Pham intentionally to load the bases and set up a force. That move backfired. After several fastballs, the hitter finally connected and drove in the winning run. The Rays mobbed the field.
Kiermaier scored the winner and celebrated hard, but it was Aranda who got the crowd and teammates pumped. He tossed his helmet, which didn’t bounce at all, then took the usual water jug shower. Adames tried to stay dry by dodging the first water dump, then ended up taking a second bath anyway. G-man Choi delivered the final soak, blasting Aranda full in the face with a jug of Gatorade. The dugout loved it. Jerseys soaked, smiles everywhere, and another hard-earned win for a Rays team that’s been stacking them up.
