The Braves got a surprise spark from a few of their recent pickups in a wild game. Francisco Cervelli, just signed after getting cut, had another strong showing with a diving stop and a key triple in the ninth. That put the tying run on third. The Braves then brought in Billy Hamilton to pinch run and Adeiny Hechavarría, another midseason addition, to keep the rally going. All three players were added after the deadline and all three played a role in keeping Atlanta alive.
But the Rockies had the last word. After a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth, Ryan McMahon stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. He hammered an inside pitch down the line for a walk-off home run. Coors Field erupted as McMahon rounded the bases. Tony Wolters came to greet him at the plate but hilariously missed the timing on the celebration. He whiffed on the Gatorade shower too, trying and failing twice to drench the hero. The Rockies got the win, and both teams gave fans a fun finish packed with late drama and new faces stepping up.
