This match took place just before the COVID shutdown and featured two sumo wrestlers from the same stable, meaning they train and live together. Hakuho, 6’3″ and around 350 pounds, faced off against Enho, who stands at 5’5″ and weighs 208 pounds. Despite the massive size gap, the tone of the bout was friendly and light-hearted. They moved through the usual sumo rituals, tossing salt and stretching, with both clearly playing to the crowd more than preparing for a serious fight.
Hakuho treated Enho almost like a younger sibling, at one point holding out his hand like keeping a kid at arm’s length. Enho eventually broke through the playful defenses with some real technique. He ducked in low, got a grip on Hakuho’s mawashi, and maneuvered him into a throw, flipping the much larger man onto the ground. The crowd responded with surprise and laughter, as did Hakuho, who seemed genuinely proud of his opponent.
Though it wasn’t a high-stakes tournament match, it was a fun, skillful display. Enho used speed and precision, while Hakuho leaned into the showmanship. The match ended with everyone smiling, enjoying the moment, and Hakuho tossing a little smirk that seemed to say he was happy to let Enho have that one.
