The Sharks and Blues delivered a chippy, drama-filled game with plenty of chaos around St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington. The first goal Binnington gave up was a high deflection that dropped low and squeaked by. The second came from a net-front scramble, with Kane cleaning up the mess. The third was all about the screen, as Binnington never saw the shot that snuck past him. That tied things up 3-3 midway through the second. Kane then battled for a puck at the point, held control even as it awkwardly spun on edge, and buried his second of the night. That soft goal ended Binnington’s night. He was pulled after allowing four goals on 19 shots.
As Binnington skated off, things got weird. A Shark player jawed at him on the bench, which triggered Binnington to stop, give a shove, and throw more stares as he passed Erik Karlsson. Karlsson didn’t say a word, just stared, which somehow made things more awkward. Kane, already off the ice, caught the exchange and smirked. Even the backup goalie got involved in the trash talk. That brief chaos didn’t throw off the Blues though. They settled in and ended up winning the game. Despite the ejection and distractions, St. Louis walked away with the win while Karlsson stayed on the bench, probably replaying the whole sequence in his head.
