Texas Tech hits three homers in a row to win in extras, a breakdown

UConn looked ready to steal a win from No. 7 Texas Tech after a scrappy comeback. Down two heading into the ninth, they tied it up, then added two more in the tenth. Ben Maycock helped move a runner over, then Kyler Fedko, already four-for-four, dropped a deep RBI double to right. That made him five-for-five with a walk. A base hit up the middle added another insurance run, and UConn led 8-6 in extras.

But then Texas Tech’s bats woke up. The first batter in the bottom of the tenth cranked a solo homer. Cal Conley, hitless all day, followed with one of his own to tie it. Then Braxton Fulford launched the third straight solo shot to walk it off. Three pitches, three homers, ballgame. The Texas Tech bullpen threw up cowboy salutes after each blast. Then came the Gatorade dump, awkwardly handled by number 35, who soaked just one teammate and no one else.

It was a brutal turnaround for UConn after thinking they had it won. Texas Tech didn’t need small ball. They just flexed their power in the tenth and left with the comeback win.
