Bellinger Hits a Home Run but it doesn’t count, a breakdown

Opening Day got weird fast in Colorado as the Dodgers faced the Rockies. Cody Bellinger launched what looked like a clear home run to left, but the fan who caught it acted like he didn’t. That hesitation caused confusion on the field. Justin Turner, rounding second, thought the ball had been caught in front of the fence. He doubled back toward first, and in doing so, passed Bellinger. Even though Turner was the one who moved backward, by rule Bellinger was out for passing a teammate.

The umpires ruled it a single with an RBI. Bellinger lost the homer and seemed stunned. Turner came all the way around to score and laughed it off in the dugout, realizing he’d cost his teammate a home run. Bellinger wasn’t thrilled. Meanwhile, Rockies first baseman C.J. Cron was quick to point out the baserunning slip to the umpire. In the end, the Dodgers got one run instead of two, and the Rockies pulled off the upset. Only a small number of people picked Colorado to win, but they came out ahead on Opening Day.
