Dbacks let injured runner limp home to score, a breakdown

The late stages of the Brewers vs. Diamondbacks game spiraled into chaos on the bases. It started with a pickoff and throwout to get the first out, but things heated up fast. Daniel Vogelbach mishandled the defense with his hustle, forcing mistakes and landing safely on first. The D-backs tried to play matchups, bringing in a lefty to strike out Christian Yelich, which worked. Then they swapped in a righty to face a righty, aiming to close the inning. That backfired when the righty issued a walk, setting him up to face a lefty anyway. That lefty singled, and Vogelbach took off.

But as he rounded third, Vogelbach pulled his hamstring badly. The outfield throw got relayed in, but no one realized he was hobbling. The catcher yelled for the ball, but it never came home. The pitcher waved frantically, but it was too late. Vogelbach limped home, scored the go-ahead run, then collapsed in pain. Reports said he’d be out six weeks, and judging by the video timing, he was still recovering. The inning didn’t end there. A blooper into right field dropped instead of being caught, scoring two more. The D-backs tried another pitching switch, only for the new lefty to pick off a runner. The play got even stranger as they shifted attention from second to home and ended up tagging out a runner there. It was a messy, momentum-shifting inning full of mental and physical errors, and the Brewers took full advantage.
