The Dodgers and Cardinals were locked in a tense 1-1 tie heading into the bottom of the ninth in the NL Wild Card game. Albert Pujols came off the bench to pinch hit but flew out on a 3-0 count. TJ McFarland managed to get two outs, but with a runner on and the game in the balance, Shildt pulled him for Alex Reyes. Chris Taylor stepped in to pinch hit with two outs and one on. After battling through the count and watching Cody Bellinger steal second, Taylor got a hanging slider and crushed it into the left field seats. Walk-off. Dodgers win. Taylor became the fifth player ever to end a winner-take-all postseason game with a home run. The team mobbed him at the plate, tore his jersey off, and doused him with water. Turner was in on it. Bellinger was literally throwing punches of celebration. Sadness on the Cardinals’ side, especially for Adam Wainwright, who pitched strong. Emotion everywhere. Dodgers move on to face the Giants.
