Corbin Burnes had a strong outing on the mound, but it ended with an odd and low-stakes ejection. In the bottom of the sixth, he was clearly frustrated with the strike zone and let the umpire know it. He wanted more calls at the bottom of the zone that weren’t coming. Still, he worked around it and got some big strikeouts, including one on a perfect curveball. At one point, he even caught a jam shot himself and fired the ball into the dirt in frustration. His emotions were showing, and everyone knew it, including the ump.
Things boiled over in the top of the seventh. On the first pitch, a curveball was called a strike. Burnes quietly muttered something like “probably not” in response. The umpire heard him, asked for clarification, and after a brief exchange, ejected him. Burnes laughed it off as he walked off the field. Given the timing, it seemed like his day was done either way, so the ejection didn’t change much. The whole sequence felt more like a formality than a real confrontation. Still, it gave the crowd a moment and added another weird entry to the list of soft ejections.
