Giants manager Bruce Bochy got tossed after arguing a rough called third strike on Brandon Belt. The at-bat featured three questionable pitches. The first two were borderline but close enough to go either way. The third pitch, though, was well off the plate and still ruled a strike. Belt thought he had drawn a walk and started walking to first. Instead, the ump rang him up.
Bochy came out to defend his hitter and didn’t appear aggressive. He calmly pointed out that the calls were off and said the last pitch was four inches outside. The umpire who tossed him was the youngest in the crew and may have reacted quickly to maintain control. The league doesn’t allow arguing balls and strikes, so Bochy got ejected on the spot.
It wasn’t a major blow-up, more of a frustration moment. Bochy seemed more focused on holding the umpire accountable and encouraging him to improve. Even the broadcast team noted the manager was probably right, based on the zone replays. Just another night of inconsistent umpiring leading to a short exchange and an early exit.
